Do I need a permit to build a fence in Fuquay-Varina?

No. The Town of Fuquay-Varina does not require a permit to install a fence inside the corporate limits or the ETJ. Pools, sheds, detached garages and other accessory structures do require permits. If your fence is going around a pool, the pool is permitted and the barrier gets inspected.

Red clay. Our Cecil-series soil is iron-rich, and rain splashing off bare ground carries iron oxide that bonds chemically to the surface rather than sitting on it. It concentrates in the bottom 12 to 18 inches. Getting grass or mulch established along the fence line prevents it better than any cleaner removes it, and it should be cleaned with the right chemistry rather than high pressure.

Spring and fall. Piedmont clay is sticky and gums an auger when saturated, and close to concrete when baked in midsummer. We install year-round, but those are the easiest working windows. One scheduling note: pine pollen peaks from late March into early April, so if appearance matters for photos, plan around it.

The latch release rule runs opposite directions depending on whether the latch self-locks — at least 54 inches for non-self-locking, no more than 54 inches for self-locking.
